Several German gaming news websites have reported that they received press releases from Midway revealing the official launch date of the anticipated FPS. The Unreal Tournament series has been popular in Germany through its first three installments, raising the ante for the latest iteration in this key European market.

If you’re wondering why Unreal Tournament 3 is titled like it is even if it’s the fourth release in the Unreal Tournament series, Epic Games gives a rather sensible explanation: The numbers affixed to the franchise members signify the game engine used for them. The first Unreal Tournament ran on the original Unreal Engine. Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Tournament 2004 both ran on the second Unreal Engine. Unreal Tournament 3 is based on Unreal Engine 3, thus the title. Simple, eh?
