UO cheat case: Accounts, items and trillion of gold deleted

Ultima OnlineThe world of long-running MMO, Ultima Online was rocked recently due to in-game abuses being done by players. Titles such as Hero Online and FF XI suffered the same fate. But when it comes to taking matters seriously and giving out punishments, giant developer-publisher Electronic Arts seems the most comfortable, judging from its recent decision regarding the matter.

It was a month ago when the investigation was first conducted. After an in-depth study of all the cases involved, the Ultima Online management decided to ban more than 400 accounts, delete more than 100,000 illegally duplicated items, and delete a staggering more than one trillion in gold. Harsh!

“More importantly, the bugs that allowed this particular kind of illegal duplication have been fixed. Also, duping and exploit prevention/detection systems have been in place for some time now,” the management wrote on the game’s official forum. They then continued, “We take all forms of cheating extremely seriously, especially cheats that affect the in game economy and devalue the hard work of honest players.”
