Up close and personal with Tabula Rasa’s CuppaJo
With the MMORPG Tabula Rasa soon to make its entry into the gaming populace, it always pays to know the people you’ll be meeting within the game, especially when that person is the one who’ll be in charge of thousands of players at any given moment. So, to help this purpose, MMORPG.com has conducted a short Q&A session with Tabula Rasa’s community Manager, April Burba, better known in the gaming community by her handle, CuppaJo.
From this short session, we discover that this Texas-girl has been pretty much a gamer since young, thanks to the DOS games that her dad regularly brought for her. So how did she make it from a quarter-toting arcade rat into one of NCSoft‘s most-known personnel? CuppaJo recalls that she used to work as a Tech Support Rep (yes, the one you call up when your disc isn’t working, or when you think there’s a glitch in the game), and from there went on to become an entry-level community coordinator for another NCSoft title, City of Heroes. She would then become the Community Manager for this title for the next two years, where the name “CuppaJo” was one that everyone knew. After that, she was transferred to become the manager for Tabula Rasa.
When asked about her typical duties as a Community Manager (and for those of you who are wondering about what she actually does), CuppaJo describes the job as “part networking, part party planning, part emergency response team. It’s also about anticipating consumers demands and feedback, one of the most notoriously frustrating and difficult things to do reliably. Community at its core is sifting through a million data points and pulling out what is most important and communicating that to developers and publishers.”
A believer of the importance of community within the industry, CuppaJo will once again be at your service, especially since Tabula Rasa is already in Beta and is expected to open soon.
