*UPDATE* 2 + 3 – 1: God of War II scales to only 480p
Curiouser and curiouser. IGN’s review of the PS2‘s God of War II (Sony Computer Entertainment) notes a little bonus feature when played on the PS3 (check page 3 of IGN’s review): “God of War II will not only be playable on the PlayStation 3, of course, but that it will run at a true HD resolution of 720p.”
But wait, they also say that “We’re unsure as of yet whether or not we’ll see additional texture detail because of this, but we’ll update this section of the review when we can test it.”
This is rather interesting, though. It’s more of a double-fold scenario, extending the life of PS2 games by enhancing their visual content for playing on a PS3, while at the same time making the PS3 somewhat more valuable for playing PS2 games. Wonder if we’ll see this in future PS2 games. Of course, you’re still going to need to buy that HDTV, though. There has to be a deal on high-def TVs somewhere on this planet…
And here we’re not even talking of God of War III yet.
Oh, poopie, an UPDATE: 1UP received word from Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) that God of War II only goes up to 480p, not 720p as IGN had thought.
Well, the speculation on other future PS2 games offering a little something-something for PS3 owners still holds, though. It’s something for devs and publishers to think about, anyways.
Thanks for pointing it out for us, bk (Unregistered).
