Use Wii on your PC
Yesterday, we brought to you the do-it-yourself modchip“>Chiip mod, an open source Wii modchip that, like a few other Wii modchips out there, requires some microcontroller programming know-how (and equipment, wink wink!). So for those who don’t have an AVR microcontroller might want to consider this viable option.
While Textb00k’s mod is nothing close to the Chiip (it doesn’t use any modchip plugged into the Wii), it does show it still uses a parallel port cable (IEEE 1284 D-SUB 25 male) top connect the Wii to the parallel port of a PC. The mod firmware is run locally on the PC (spot the black console window below the video capture screen) and the video is fed through a video capture card, also slapped onto a PC.
Pretty nifty trick for under three bucks isn’t it? Boot up your backed up games to keep the originals lasting longer. Although there are no instructions yet, just stay tuned. We’ll be hunting for them. All we know is that the DVD drive is patched directly to the PC via printer cable and from there the modified firmware bypasses the security check.
