Valve hurries to fix The Orange Box lag issues in XBL

Valve hurries to fix The Orange Box lag issues in XBL - Image 1Valve Software’s The Orange Box shipped last week for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and was well-received by fans. However, not all is well as competitive play over at Xbox Live has been marred by serious lag issues. The most striking of these concerns Team Fortress 2‘s 8 vs. 8 square-offs, prompting fans to cry foul.

Fortunately, Valve realized this and announced that a patch should be available to fix the issues by the end of this week or early next week, though no exact date was given.

The most notorious issues so far is the “connection to host lost” message that may Microsoft Xbox 360 fans have complained about. Others tell morbid tales of lag so severe that games become unplayable.

In comparison, the Windows version of The Orange Box doesn’t have these issues and runs multiplayer games very well. Some have attributed the problem to Valve’s vast experience with PC game development and relative freshness on the console scene.

Unlike in the PC gaming scene, patches take a little longer to arrive for the Microsoft Xbox 360 because everything that goes into Xbox Live has to be cleared and certified by Microsoft to ensure quality.

Here’s hoping that the new The Orange Box patch arrives soon from Valve. In the meantime, you can enjoy other aspects of the wonderful trifecta that features Half-Life 2: Episode Two and Portal along with Team Fortress 2.
