Valve: Left 4 Dead not in production for PS3

A rumor has circulated over the weekend that the PlayStation 3 could be on its way to landing Valve Corporation‘s zombie-infested shooter Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC). This has now been proven false by the devs themselves as Doug Lombardi said that there’s nothing of the sort currently in production.

“Left 4 Dead doesn’t have that guaranteed appeal yet – it’s a new IP,” said Lombardi. “If you mention a new Half-Life, people want to make as many versions of it as possible. If Left 4 Dead is big, then we may see a PS3 version later, or if and when we do a sequel, people may be more interested in that.”

Valve has had quite a history of giving the PS3 the cold shoulder. Ace developer was once quoted saying that the console is “a waste of everybody’s time.”

Lombardi, too, has been quoted affirming this mindset for the console. He was quoted earlier saying that their company develops for the Xbox 360 and the PC. He added that the main reason why The Orange Box was released for the PS3 is because EA came to them and said
“Wow, Orange Box was an incredible project, can we do a PS3 version?”

The result? The Orange Box for the PS3 suffered from a barrage of technical issues that infuriated thousands of users, fueling flames and petitions all over the web. If you ask me, Left 4 Dead is better off left in the cold if it’ll come DOA to the PS3 like The Orange Box.
