Valve: no Portal game for this year
Yes, Valve Corporation‘s Portal (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, PC) is indeed remarkable, but as tempting as the idea may be, the game developer studio won’t cash in on the highly-lucrative series…for now. Valve’s Doug Lombardi speaks up about the choice they made concerning Portal, and you can read about it in the full article.
Valve Corporation‘s Portal (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, PC) is well-known for its innovative gameplay and beloved characters, and a remarkable story that merited in-depth analysis.
So it’s no surprise that its fans are clamoring for more physics-defying (or abiding, depending on how you look at it) action, but Valve has something to say concerning the possibility of a sequel: none. At least, for this year.
According to Valve’s Doug Lombardi, the game developing studio has chosen not to cash-in at the successful game and will instead throw their efforts into making a game that’s “equally as revolutionary” as Portal. He explained:
You won’t see a new Portal at retail this Christmas because of that. That’s the trade off. People want more, but we don’t want to give them more of the same right away because that would just be boring.
“I think you have to be ambitious,” he added. At least, we’ll be assured that the next Valve game in the works will be something that’s hopefully going to be as mind-blowing as Portal.
