Vana’Diel crackdown: 6.2B gil confiscated, 7,450 accounts closed

Sad moogles...If you’ve been doing some very dubious things in Final Fantasy XI recently, don’t be surprised to find yourself unable to play. Square Enix staff have shut down close to 7,500 accounts and suspended 250 more for violating the terms of the Final Fantasy XI agreement.

The GM staff counted 4800 cases of third-party tool usage, 4400 of which were used to get ahead of other players in hunting down notorious monsters. They also noted 2800 cases of people engaged in trading cash for gil or previously banned people attempting to sign up again, as well as some cases of gamers trying less than scrupulous ways to get better items.

An estimated 6.2 billion gil was confiscated in the process, as well as plenty of man hours used to get that much gil in thge first place. The GM staff can expect 7,000 appeals when they come to work today though, so for the straight players out there, don’t give those guys any grief today, alright?
