Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, in memoriam Keith Parkinson (1958-2005)

Known for his artwork in EverQuest and Magic: The Gathering, Keith Parkinson sadly passed away in 2005 due to Acute Myelogeneous Leukemia (AML). Sadly, too, because he was set to compose the box art for SOE‘s Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. He knew this, though, and when he knew he could not complete this task, he passed on his work to his friend Donato Giancola, to finish the job he had set out to do.

The art exhibit “The Masters of Fantasy Art Tour: Keith Parkinson” doubled as the launch event for Vanguard. Ten Ton Hammers took some pictures of the event where the memory and legacy of Parkinson was displayed and honored as SOE also celebrated Vanguard‘s launch – Keith’s last legacy. The box art that Donato completed became one of the artworks, too, a memorial to his departed friend (Donato painted Keith into the box art – see if you can spot him).

Nick Parkinson, Sigil Games Online Community Manager, is Keith’s son.
