VC Japan getting Super SFII and more this week
Do you want to cruise for an old-school bruise on the Nintendo Wii? You just might be able to soon enough. A look at this week’s Japanese Virtual Console line-up shows that we could have Super Street Fighter II from Capcom up ahead. We also have a handful of others on the horizon, so see the full article to find out which other old favorites are coming back.
The Japanese Virtual Console is getting something that a lot of people who grew up in the 90’s will drool over. It’s Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers from Capcom and it’s headed the Wii’s way in its nostalgic 16-bit form.
Released in the mid-90’s, Super Street Fighter II heralded some big steps for the fighting game genre. A legitimate combo system was fully integrated into the action complete with one of the earliest hit counters in the business. This deepened 2D fighting as players strived to chain attacks rather than just throw fireballs all day.
This also signaled the arrival of rookies Fei Long, Cammy, Dee Jay and T. Hawk. All of whom fit into the growing Street Fighter family whose members’ names resonate loudly even today.
Also coming to the Japanese VC this week are old favorites Metal Slader Glory from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Party Quiz Mega from the Sega Genesis, and Hudson Soft‘s Ai-Choaniki.
We certainly hope that all of these titles become available soon in our local VCs . These aren’t just relics of the past. They’re fun games as well.
