Verizon is the Only US Provider to Offer LG Chocolate

This popular slider phone from LG (the LG VX8500) has previously been unavailable in the US and demand is expected to be high. Since Verizon is going to be the only provider with this phone, some people will still be left in the cold because of previous contract issues. Hopefully, more providers will come on board with this model in the future.

The phone supports stereo Bluetooth, is aimed at music lovers and has a plethora of media-related features. With only 68MB of onboard memory the phone is dependent on its available SD slot that can take up to 2GB SD cards. The way I, and many people, use mobile music players (I have nearly 50GB stored on my Ipod right now), the VX8500 does not offer enough storage.

For people that are looking for a phone and are interested in storing a limited amount of music, as a secondary feature, this phone might be the way to go. The design of the phone is visually stunning, adding its allure, but its lack of features will limit the phone to only passing popularity most likely.

The 320X240 screen is a decent size for a phone, but it is not touch-sensitive. At a little under 7 inches long and 3.8 inches wide, the “chocolate” is not insubstantial, but should fit in most pants pockets. This phone uses a cursor pad for on screen navigation and an alpha numeric keyboard for dialing and typing that is lighted and touch sensitive.

You can add media content to the phone via USB and also using the phone’s VCAST capability. Verizon no longer charges by the month for VCAST service in preference for a fee based per use model. With all the usual bells and whistles, plus the added focus on media functionality, the shiny new chocolate from Verizon has more than just good looks.
