Victor’s vids: 5 favorite game-related bits of weirdness

Since the new year is here (or has come and gone for you), it’s time to have a bit of fun. Instead of talking about Saddam Hussein’s hanging or the impending zombie apocalypse, I’ve decided to come up with a short list of my favorite game-related vids.

I’ve always had a penchant for picking up videos. For the most part, I find videos of games here and there, and sometimes, some of those videos just stick in your head long after you’ve seen them.

Here are my top five game-related bits of weirdness, which anyone with a degree in googling can hunt down and download for themselves. In no particular order…

Street Fighter Salsa

I do some ballroom dancing myself, so this was funny to watch. As you can see, this is a Korean salsa competition where the contestants are playing Ryu and Chun Li. Definitely weird, but you can see some of the obvious Street Fighter references in their routine, giving this a definite spot in my top 5.

Less ballroom, more weirdness if you click on “Full Article”.

Mega64’s Resident Evil 4 Skit

The Mega64 crew are well-known for pulling off some of the funniest game-related skits known to man. One of their weirdest ones has to be this video of Resident Evil 4’s merchant peddling his wares at the local supermarket. Resigned only to using the handful of lines the Merchant uses in-game, you can actually do quite a lot with 15 words, as Rocco (playing the merchant) clearly shows.

School’s Out: A Nintendo Commercial

Perhaps one of the most memorable (and actually good) Nintendo commercials ever developed, this vid has kids bouncing and running everywhere as they make their way to the local game store. Simply deserves to be seen to be believed.

Skullcrusher Mountain on WoW

On the net, Jonathan Coulton is well-known for his weekly songs, which usually come out free of charge for people to listen to. Some of his songs make perfect machinima music, such as this story of a mad man who’s trying to woo a girl his assistant kidnapped and imprisoned on Skullcrusher Mountain. Watch out for the half-pony, half-monkey monster!

Pyramid Head, Remixed

I shall leave you with this ten-second tidbit from the “Silent Hill Experience” UMD. It’s a ten-second excerpt from the hidden “FUKURO” music video with new music to suit your tastes.
