Vietnam lens provider added for M5 MacBook Pro
Apple’s MacBook Pro
Rumor Score is Possible
Last updated 1 hour agoAnalyst Ming Chi Kuo claims that Apple will be turning to Sunny Optical in Vietnam to manufacture cameras for its M5 MacBook Pro version in 2025. The claim that Sunny Optical would provide Compact Camera Modules for the M5 MacBook Pro 2025 seems to at least partially confirm previous assumptions that this device wouldn’t be released until 2024. Ming-Chi Kuo’s tweet and blog are not clear on whether Sunny Optical will be the sole CCM provider or if there will be an additional one. Kuo claims that Sunny Optical has a unique place in Apple’s supply chains. It can produce CCMs and lenses for them at the same time. Kuo claims that Sunny Optical became the main lens provider for the iPhone 14 by 2022. Kuo also claims that Sunny Optical lost orders due to production problems. Kuo predicts Sunny Optical will regain iPhone orders if its CCMs for MacBook Pro do not have similar problems. “[My] most recent survey indicates that beginning in 2H24, iPhones orders will gradually return,” he wrote. Sunny Optical’s communication with Apple and continuous production improvements are the reasons for this. If this is true, then the Vietnam-based firm will become a more significant supplier of the iPhone 17 range. Apple is also continuing to build up manufacturing in Vietnam. This country has benefited as the company has sought to reduce its over-reliance upon China.
