Virtua Fighter Won’t Be Going Online
At least that’s the word from producer Hiroshi Kataoka. In an interview with Electronic Gaming Monthly, Kataoka said quite plainly, “If we ever wanted to do an online fighting game, it would have to be called something besides Virtua Fighter.” He elaborated by telling the EGM guys that the development team performed tests simulating the lag and timing issues associated with online play and it just changed the game too significantly; “It wound up feeling like a completely different game!” he said. A huge bummer to be sure but you have to respect and admire his unwillingness to compromise the Virtua Fighter name with a shoddy product. Guess we’ll have to hold out hope for online play in the Tekken’s and Soul Calibur’s
