Virtual Console Europe gets Super Metroid, Probotector II
Nintendo of Europe sends out word that the Virtual Console for its region has just been updated and that classic titles Super Metroid Probotector II: Return of the Evil Forces are now available for download. The release of Super Metroid is viewed by many as an excellent preparation for the launch of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption this coming October 26.
In case you’re not familiar with this classic, Super Metroid first came out in 1994 on the platform Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It features Samus Aran and her quest to stop the Space Pirates and eliminate their leader Mother Brain.
Super Metroid is a very pivotal part in the Metroid series because it is in this game where the standard features of all Metroid games after it were first introduced. These include the Charge Beam, the Grappling Beam, and the on-screen map system that helped players navigate the massive game world.
Probotector II: Return of the Evil Forces, on the other hand, is a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) shooter that came out in 1988. It is known in other markets as Super Contra. In this game, players take on the role of robot warriors RD008 and RC011 as they undertake heroic efforts to save the Earth from an alien invasion.
