Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - Image 1Greg Grimsby, the art director of EA Mythic‘s Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, recently discussed the creation of the Inevitable City.

Unlike most of the areas in the game which the developers can pattern after the environments in the tabletop game, this town is populated by Chaos worshipers and has been warped by evil gods such as Tzeentch, Khorne, and Slaanesh.

Grimsby noted that designing the art for a town like this was a challenge. He pointed out that while designing the landmarks were easy, having to create a tavern or a bank for a Chaos town wasn’t. The effects and design decisions have to be just right to impart a sense of evil.

When the design requirements have been sorted out, they then have to plot out the location of each building on paper or a paint program. After getting some input from everyone else on the team, they created a mock-up of the city using grey box prototypes. This allows them to get an idea of how the city flows as well as the basic footprint of the area.

Of course the process doesn’t end there since the developers have to do more than that to create a living, breathing city. In case you want to find out more about the process of building the Inevitable City, follow our source link below.
