Warhawk to get stand alone retail SKU for US$ 40

Back in August, Warhawk was released in two versions. The first is in its DLC-format available on the PlayStation Network for US$ 39.99. The second option was to for US$ 59.99, but that’s as a bundle that comes along with a bluetooth headset. Right now, it seems as if there’s going to be a third option to be made available by the end of the month.

We first got whiff of it from Level Up’s N’Gai Croal: Warhawk could be sold as a stand alone Blu-ray disc for US$ 39.99. Interestingly enough, online retail stores have been posting product pages of the stand alone Warhawk. We checked ourselves: Amazon says it gets released on October 31. Gamestop says it gets released October 10.

So why release a Blu-ray version? Well, it seems pretty obvious: it’s all about consumer choice. The more options you have, the better, right? Level Up inquired the Sony rep about this, though. Was this indicative of some future trend that Sony might take? Will they be releasing those AAA titles as DLC and marked up retails bundles… and then follow it with a stand alone game disc SKU with a stripped price? The Sony spokesperson’s reply, however, was that Sony had no new announcements regarding such strategy.
