Warriors: Legends of Troy – the Dynasty Warriors of the West

Dynasty Warriors - Image 1I love playing Dynasty Warriors, but I can’t help but laugh at the Dynasty Warrior-factory remarks thrown at Koei. Man, talk about bread and butter. In fact, if you check Koei’s lineup at their site, seven of the nine games in the console/PC division are DW-related, five of nine for portable. Basing its story from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the game was better received in the East than the West. That’s where Warriors: Legends of Troy comes in. More after the jump.

Speaking to Joystiq about their latest project, Koei Canada revealed that Warriors: Legends of Troy will indeed be the Western counterpart of the Warriors series. Originally just a CG studio, Koei Canada became a software house only in 2005, and they’re the guys who were responsible for Fatal Inertia and porting Warriors Orochi for the PSP. Warriors: Legends of Troy will be their first major project.

Interesting fact: Warriors: Legends of Troy is not only set to be “a Dynasty Warriors game for people who hate Dynasty Warriors,” it’s also gonna be made by people who hate Dynasty Warriors. I actually laughed when I read that one. So the output we should be expecting should not be the same-old-same-old stuff we’ve seen over and over again.

As far as story goes, Warriors: Legends of Troy will span across the ten years of the Trojan War, with influence from the literature and mythology, of course. There will be encounters with the gods, which will be made “appropriately terrifying.” So I don’t think you’ll be pulling a Kratos here.

Koei Canada is planning Spring 2010 release for Warriors: Legends of Troy for the PS3 and Xbox 360. We haven’t seen Koei Canada in 3rd person action before, so it’s worth a look to see if they’re up to the job.
