What does it take to work in Bungie?
Ever wondered what it takes to work in a game development company such as Bungie Studios? In an interview, Bungie’s recruiter Kari Erickson revealed how they pick the best for high quality titles such as Halo.
Erickson sees herself as a matchmaker in the professional world. If you want any chance to get hired, you have to prove to her that you have skills necessary for them to employ you. If your qualifications fit an open spot, you get a shot at your desired position.
Before anything, you have to send in your resume. One big warning from Erickson: “Use spell and grammar check!” Being able to write properly is not enough though, as you’ll have to impress the gatekeeper. Show them a reel or portfolio of your works, say how much you know about the company, or give them your work experience if you want to catch their attention.
Beneath the strict rules, they are quite considerate. Just be honest and don’t give them a fake list of skills, they’d consider giving you a job that suits you the most. Watch out though, you can’t do anything about lacking on the requirements for a position.
As for what you should NOT do if you want a job at Bungie: don’t send a picture of yourself drinking with a buddy, or a cover letter telling them they’re stupid if they don’t hire you. Erickson couldn’t stress those enough, she obviously doesn’t fancy dealing with spam.
