What has changed with the VisionOS 2 Easy Look?
Quick Look for visionOS 2.
Apple announced new Quick Look features in visionOS 2.0 during WWDC 2024. In this article, we’ll explore new ways to use QuickLook with Apple Vision Pro. Quick Look allows users to preview large renderings in 3D of visionOS app object with enhanced resolution. Quick Look allows users to select 3D objects within visionOS and enlarge the images for a 3D view. You only need to provide a URL to enable a Quick Look preview within your visionOS app. Quick Look in visionOS offers two ways to preview 3D content: in-app or windowed. (This is similar to how Quick Look in macOS works). In-app-style With in-app-style, you can view 3D content in a visionOS scenario in-place without having to open another interface. In-app style allows you to quickly and easily preview 3D objects by simply tapping on them. In-app style allows the user to preview and manipulate objects directly. Windowed In windowed quick look, 3D items are displayed as a volume. This allows you to view the 3D objects available in one overlay window. Windowed Quick look is a great way to view multiple objects quickly and easily. It’s also faster because you can cycle through them all in one place instead of selecting each one and then previewing it. The volumes browser in Windowed Quick LookPreviewApplication API
visionOS 2 provides a new PreviewApplication API utilizing SwiftUI and concurrency to allow developers to include Quick Look in their visionOS apps with just a few lines of code. The PreviewApplication API allows visionOS apps to provide a quick look preview for a single item or a collection of previews by using a Collection View. You’ll need a new View Subclass in a Swift File in Xcode to use the PreviewApplication API. You will also need to import the QuickLook Framework at the top of the view subclass file. Add a thumbnail view to the body of your View class and a.onTapGesture function. Inside your .onTapGesture method, first create a PreviewItem, pass in the URL(s) of your 3D object(s) then call the PreviewApplication.open method, passing in the preview item you created. Create the preview item with URLs and place them in a subclass of thumbnail view. Using this code, the user can tap on a file to open it in a new tab in the visionOS workspace. If the file contains video the video will start playing automatically. You can allow users to preview multiple items by passing an array of URLs instead of a single one in the.selectedURL parameters. By setting the editingMode parameter to.enabled, you can specify whether or not a preview editing window is displayed so that the user can edit the item being viewed. You can also change title of the item currently being previewed. Other Quick Look API changes include Quick Look preview sessions, Quick Look session events, and others. Configurations In visionOS 2, Quick Look also offers Configurations. Configurations allows you to specify different options or variants for 3D objects that the user can choose from. These can include transparency, color, size, etc. You can also include texture options for 3D items in Quick Look. However, keep in mind that all Quick Look previews must be able to load rapidly so you should not include any options which take too long to render. You can customize 3D objects within the visionOS environment by using Configurations.
