What you need to know about Voyage Century Online

ahoy!

A couple of days ago, we reported that Voyage Century Online from IGG is about to launch its beta testing. Now, we need to know more about the game, and what place is most ideal to get the scoop on this nautical MMO. Daniel Lin, the Manager of Overseas Marketing for Voyage Century, gives an overview of the game through an interview with MMORPG.com. Here are the bare bones of the interview.

Voyage Century Online is set in the 15th to 18th century. The game would use a sea map of the “known” world during that time. There are spatial proportions in the game: real proportion for the city scenes and another for the sea battles.

The game gives players freedom to choose ability, nationality, and profession. Character customization options like facial features and hairstyle are also available. There are three character aspects to develop: skill level, ship level, and rank of nobility.

To level up skills, players need to complete tasks. To gain honor and reputation, players have to complete high level tasks, explore new lands, find rare species, and accumulate battle experience. There’s no level cap at the moment.

Players start off with a small boat, which can be acquired through the NPC Mysterious Captain. Provisions are needed to be completed before a character can sail off.

There is a rank system in Voyage Century Online that regulates Reputation, Noble title, and Title. Characters can be distinguished by their rank. Like in other MMOs, high-level armor and equipment have skill and experience requirements.

There would be a weekly city battle where a guild can capture a city. Each city has a Bourse (in plain speak, market) where players can sell, trade with other players, or set up a booth to sell items. The economy is based on the concept of supply and demand.

There are two kind of storage: the warehouse for player’s items and the bank for silver storage. Players need to buy a Strongbox from the item mall to be able to store silver in the bank.

As parting words, Mr. Lin said, “It will attract the large number of players who have dreamed about sailing voyage from their childhood, plus players excited to play the role of pirates, possibly after being influenced by novels and movies.”
