When is the phone 16 function happening? Here’s what to expect

We’re officially one month away from the iPhone event season. Apple has been releasing its new iPhone in September every year for years. When is the iPhone 16 event? Here’s what you can expect.Over the last three years, this is when Apple announced its latest iPhone.2023: Tuesday September 12
2022: Wednesday, September 7
2021: Tuesday September 14
The proximity of these dates with Labor Day is another important data point. Apple’s iPhone event in 2023 was 8 days after Labor Day. In 2022, it was only 2 days later. In 2021, it was 8 days later. Based on this history we can see that Apple prefers Tuesdays and Thursdays for iPhone event days. Tuesdays are preferred but the event is moved to Wednesday if it falls in the same week as Labor Day. Both 2023 and 2020 follow the same pattern. The iPhone 16 event is most likely to be held on Tuesday, September 10. This is consistent with the previous years’ pattern. 2022 deviated from this pattern but September 10 remains the most likely choice for 2024. Labor Day is early this year. It’s almost impossible to imagine it landing earlier than September 2. That makes Wednesday, September 4, unlikely. In some parts of the US the fall semester hasn’t even started yet. In New York City for example, the first school day is Thursday, September 5th. It has happened before, but Apple then reverted to a later date the following year. Apple has done this before, but then changed the date the next year. Because Labor Day is so early and some schools start so late, an iPhone 16 event in the first week of September is probably out.
