Why Wait? More LOTR Online Alpha Journals Out Now!
Yep, we said the next Alpha Player Journals update was gonna be on Friday. And yes, as we expected, they’re now out. Seems everybody at Lord of the Rings Online just can’t wait to spread the good word about this fantastic new online game set in J.R.R. Tolkien‘s Middle-Earth. And with good reason, as the journals will prove.
This week, the Alpha players tackle topics such as the game’s ability to “follow closely the intent behind the words of JRR Tolkien while still providing viable game mechanics.” Again, server stability is one of the things LOTRO is most praised for, which should draw MMORPG fans who are getting tired of server crashes. Also, one Alpha player who was sent on a quest to kill some spiders had this experience to share:
“I arrived at the area, and there were several other players around, and no spiders. Just fantastic – I know how this works. Too many people and not enough mobs…let the spawn camping begin! I had some nasty flashbacks to some other MMOs.
“So I’m standing there, waiting for a respawn and hoping I can tag one of them and make some progress on this quest. All of the sudden, this ultra dramatic music flares up before I even know what’s happening. I spin around to see spiders all over the place – dropping out of trees, coming from cracks in the mountain, from ahead, from behind…..everywhere. Everyone in the area immediately jumps to battle, but no longer are these people nuisances standing in my way of finishing my quest, but rather comrades at arms. And no longer am I killing these things just to finish the quest; we’re all fighting for our lives!“
Now THAT is one heck of a way to spice up the old “go to X, kill Y” quests! To read the journals, click on the ‘read’ link below. Those who wanna join the Beta testing, make sure you get the Beta Application forms on the LOTRO website.
