Wii 2 already in the works; can it live up to expectations?
The Wii is a revolutionary console – but can Nintendo keep up the pace in the next generation? Nintendo big boss Satoru Iwata has revealed that they are already working on the Wii’s successor, but admits that it’s going to be difficult to meet the expectations that they have set in this generation. Story in the full article.
Although the Wii is still selling like hotcakes, Nintendo big boss Satoru Iwata has revealed that they are already working on its successor. We probably won’t see it hit the market until Wii sales die down though (which might not be anytime soon).
At this point though, the question really isn’t when they’ll release it, but what they’ll be releasing. The Wii made a pretty huge impact in this generation of consoles for its revolutionary design – but can “Wii 2” live up to these standards?
Iwata himself isn’t sure on that point.
Every hardware needs some revolutionary features. This time around, it happened to be we had a revolutionary user interface. Will it be the same for the next generation? I really can’t tell.
It’s natural for the current customer to expect Nintendo is going to once again do something different. If the people are expecting so many different things from Nintendo, it’s going to be difficult for us to go beyond that expectation again.
So what’s the deal with this new Wii anyway? Iwata didn’t give much clues, but he did have this to say about it: “We are always preparing for the next hardware. We are under development. Â… But the hardware is a kind of box that consumers reluctantly buy in order to play our games.” Probably won’t be the case when it actually hits the market though.
