Wii and the toy market in Australian news
This Christmas is all about electronic interactive toys. There’s the creepy cute singing Furby, the RoboSapien (simple enough for kids, advanced enough for adults – or so says RoboSapien’s marketing team)… So the Wii will be right at home this Christmas. “Thousands have been pre-ordered” – or so says this Australian TV news segment uploaded to YouTube by VOOK64.
Earlier somebody commented that it’s strange that a game console would be part of a news segment about toys. Is a game console a toy? Of course! Even a PC or a sports car is, in one sense, a toy. It’s not like you use a game console to plow a field or milk a cow – you use a game console to enjoy, have fun – to play.
The Wii is in good company. As the RoboSapien and the Lego Mindstorms show, some toys are for the big boys and girls.
