Wii campaign moves to TV, cinema and other media

Wii UKWhen Nintendo uttered last month in a cute British accent, “Wii will move you,” we weren’t quite sure what they mean exactly. We just knew that advertising would cost them a grand total of £ 11 million. Apparently, their online marketing strategy wasn’t included in this whopping sum, roughly  amounting to US $21 million.

Product Manager for Wii Rob Lowe discloses that they are targetting every kind of British consumer – male or female, young or old – a statement consistent with Nintendo’s stand when it comes to the untapped market. “It is our intention to make the Wii the number one console in the UK. The campaign focuses on real people playing and having fun,” quipped Lowe.

Also, the vibrant executive shares that they would be using mainly TV, cinema, PR and sampling. Around US $12 million will be used between now and December and they will follow through with the US $8.5 million during the first quarter of 2007. Lowe expects the Wii TV advertising to be viewed at least three times by 80% of U.K.’s population, while sampling would involve a million individuals across 70 different locations.

It is crunch time for Nintendo, so to speak. We wonder how our British friends would respond to this last push. Anyway, everything will be known in the next couple of weeks. We honestly hope things turn out well for their campaign. It is definitely not so cute if the £ 11 million would just go to waste.
