Wii converts journalist at BBC News

BBCSo this lady over at BBC News, a hopeless gaming noob, tries WarioWare. She didn’t understand what the mini-tasks were for. Wii Sports was next, but she’s bad at sports. Trauma Center and Excite Truck didn’t impress her.

“And then I met Link.”

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess got her interested. She said it was probably because there was a story, a narrative, to the game. And because of swishing around the Wii remote like a sword or using it to launch arrows. And Link’s “cute outfit” (her words, not mine).

Was she converted? She’s not sure. She probably won’t buy a Wii (although she did say it looked good – white and sleek – and she wouldn’t mind having one in her living room), but if her brother buys one, she’ll consider playing. “I would like to have another go on Zelda.”

For us, that’s a step in the right direction. We see somebody who might, one day, become an avid gamer. We understand what a great (and addictive) experience gaming is. We’re always glad when a new person discovers this joy for the first time.

As she said, the Wii is “being promoted as something any member of the family can pick up – a console that will introduce new people to the world of videogames.”

And it seems that the Wii is accomplishing this mission One Noobie Reporter At A Time.
