Wii Dev Kits Cost Quarter to Half of PS3 and 360 Kits
THQ President and CEO, Brian Farrell, praised the Nintendo Wii yet again today. Quite contrary to what EA claims, he says it’s not only quite easy but also considerably cheaper to develop games for the Wii than it is for PS3s and Xbox 360s, and remarks how surprising it was to see game journalists whoop and holler with excitement over a Spongebob game when they showed it off at a recent press conference.
“[The Wii] wasn’t a whole new programming environment, so we had a lot of tools and tech that work in that environment. So those costs–and again, I hate these broad generalizations–but they could be as little as a third of the high-end next-gen titles… Maybe the range is a quarter to a half.”
Great news for small publishers who might be looking to create games for the console market.
