Wii Far Cry Preview

far cryAs an update to an earlier article where we mentioned that Far Cry will take advantage of the Wii controls, we now have a preview of the game via Random Nintendo.

According to the site’s preview (and we agree), the biggest change that Ubisoft would have to make for the Far Cry Wii is the way the gamers follow Jack Carver’s adventures using the Wii’s motion-sensing controllers. We could only guess what these changes would be, but Laurent Detoc, Ubisoft NA’s president, said that players will be able to use the Wii Remote to shoot, punch, jump, run, drive, throw grenades, and keep their balance.

Sadly though, we haven’t seen anything of the game on Wii except for the screens. Ubisoft hasn’t announced anything about the control scheme. We’re guessing that intuitive features would include flicking the wrists back and forward to throw grenades and turning the Wii Remote on its sides for driving. As for balancing on ledges, perhaps we’d be able to set the “Wiimote” in a still position while using the analog stick to walk along the rope. But then again, this is just a guess.

Ubisoft would also have to utilize the multiplayer capabilities of the Wii (co-op and four-player deathmatch mode?*gasp!*) given that Far Cry has various vehicles (AND boats) and weapons that players can choose from. This could bring the whole Far Cry experience to a different level if Ubisoft decides to have a multiplayer deathmatch mode, and that’s a big IF.  A system for downloadable content would also be awesome, although there are rumors going around that Nintendo haven’t sent any Wi-Fi kits to development houses for the Wii.

While all we can do now is wait for the Wii and Far Cry to come out, it’s a good sign that at least the title for the Wii won’t just be a carry-over of X360’s Far Cry: Instincts – Predator. Laurent Detoc said that the Wii title would get elements from  previous Far Cry titles but the one for Wii would have a new storyline as well as characters, maps, and equipment. Right now Ubisoft is working on a game to be based on the hit TV show “Lost” and is rumored to have a Rainbox Six title on the works. Ubisoft just seems to keep giving us more stuff to look forward to.
