Wii Gains Another Ally in Opera Software

wiiThe upcoming Wii will be able to browse the Internet thanks to the joint forces of Nintendo and Opera Software. According to a statement released by Opera Software, users of the Wii console can browse the Internet using the Wii Remote controller to navigate between gaming sessions.

Nintendo is clearly visionary in leading the gaming industry into the new era in gaming, and a wonderful partner for Opera,” says Opera Software. “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Nintendo, and work with them to deliver the best gaming experience on the Wii console and the Nintendo DS.”

Nintendo responded: “For our Wii console launch in 2006, we required a browser that was fast and secure with support for the latest standards including AJAX. Opera proved perfect for our purposes and is an exceptional addition to both the Nintendo DS and the Wii console.”  Awww… we haven’t seen this much public display of affection since Tom Cruise appeared on Oprah!

Incidentally, a full Opera browser for the other Nintendo console, the DS, will be released in Japan this summer.  Special thanks to TeamOverload for this.
