Wii launch at Williston, lines, and lucky people get Wiis

“I asked them [the Best Buy employees] about the PS3 lineÂ… aparently it was a bitchy line. The Wii line is more of a socially interactable, friendly line,” said Sohmageek. Although, we have to say that if the Best Buy people thought the PS3 line was “bitchy,” we’re surprised. A true gamer is a gamer and a gentleman. Maybe the line had been infiltrated by rude scalpers?

With that said, we move on to these images of the Williston Best Buy line for the Wii – where somebody brought a projector and some games.

From what we’re hearing, lines are everywhere in the USA – some are not very long – less than 50 people, but that still means that those 25 or so people have to wait – and in some cases the wait can be a while for the store to open. But some lines are long – and some people have been waiting since Saturday noon (this was the case at a Best Buy in LA).

We haven’t heard of anybody getting mugged or shot at (at least none have been confirmed), and we haven’t heard of lines where 50% of the liner-uppers are buying for eBay (unlike the Hong Kong PS3 line, for example, where reports said that half of them were elderly women looking to sell the machines for a profit). We checked other sites, and the reports about the launch are the same. Kotaku, for example, reports peace, quiet, order, and good tidings of comfort and joy.

Then again, you wouldn’t expect too much violence from a bunch of gamers whose avowed reasons for buying a Wii are limited to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Red Steel (a mild ESRB T rating), and Cooking Mama. Or maybe it’s just getting too cold to riot? No, the violence is reserved for later. When kids start bashing each other’s heads with their Wii remotes, hehe.

There’s also a video of the Dublin, Ohio line (from AgentDark) and a video of the midnight launch at Deptford, New Jersey (from Ectospheno). Both are behind the jump – just click on the “Full Article” link below to see them!

Update: I heard one of our QJ staffers just got a Wii from Wal-Mart. The line wasn’t very long – he was surprised there was a line. I told him, “But the Wii has captured the hearts and minds of the masses! The longest lines will probably be in small towns where the allocation for units is not very big but the interest is very high.” He’ll probably write about it as soon as he’s done feeling uber-happy.
