Wii lines: “mellow” and “less gangsta” than PS3 lines (and more drunk?)

You read a lot of accounts and listen and watch and think as you surf the Internet, chat with friends, and call up people – and you hear that so many PS3 lines were rowdy, weren’t really lines (people clumped up in front of the door), and had its share of violence.

Then you get these kinds of stories about the Wii lines:

  • Compared to the PS3 lines, Wii lines were more self-policing. Somebody would pass out a sign-up sheet so people know what order the line is. This way you can go in and pee or play a bit at Wii demo kiosk and the other people in line will save your spot for you.
  • Compared to the PS3 lines, Wii lines were all smiles. Relaxed. Mellow. Little stress.
  • Compared to the PS3 lines, Wii lines tended to be more fun. People wearing costumes or with Nintendo stuff (pins, blankets, chairs, etc.). Projectors, TVs, SNES, NES, DS, etc… all so others could play Nintendo games while they wait.

Are these reports quick generalizations? Or is there a media bias for the Wii – that is, the media is only reporting good stuff about Wii lines and reporting bad stuff about Sony lines? Or do they show a real difference in temperament and personality between your typical PS3 liner-upper and your typical Wii liner-upper?

And then there’s this DRUNK GUY in the WII LINE in this video from sssok:

We’d need one huge survey to find out the truth. So we’ll close the article with what we found over at Gamespot. Their reports match what we’ve been hearing since the day before the launch: the Wii is love. “One observer noted that the crowds waiting for the Wii were decidedly ‘less gangsta’ than those who camped out for the PS3” and that “they seemed much more at ease and laid back than the PS3 crowd.”
