Nintendo is at it again, releasing a new firmware update for the Wii without any new features. Instead, system menu update 4.3 removes the Homebrew Channel, DVDX, BootMii and Bannerbomb, among others. According to Nintendo, the new firmware “provides behind-the-scenes fixes that will not affect features but will improve the overall system performance.”
Notable changes of firmware 4.3 (as posted in Wiibrew.org):
- Deletes the Homebrew Channel and DVDX, title IDs HAXX, DVDX, JODI, DISC, and DISK.
- Now uses IOS80.
- IOS254 stubbed BootMii is deleted.
- Fixed Bannerbomb less stupidly this time.
- Added IOS58.
- HackMii Installer Userland+Syscall IOS exploit removed
- NANDFS privilege escalation fixed
- ES_AddTitleFinish now checks the signature (Trucha Bug Restorer and similar won’t work anymore)
So if you still love your Wiibrew apps, we advise you not to update:
- If you want to enter Shop Channel, Dop-SHOP can install Shop Channel v19 and IOS61.
- If you don’t have/want patched IOS, but want Shop Channel, use WiiSCU and install Shop Channel v19 and IOS61
