Wii most wanted in Australia
Market data supplier GfK came out with an announcement yesterday, saying Microsoft‘s next-gen console just had the highest grossing week ever in Australia. Well, it seems like the guys over at GfK are really working overtime as they released new numbers today. From the looks of it, the X360’s triumph is kind of short lived.
Four days following its launch on December 7, GfK announced that the Nintendo Wii just tallied 32,901 of units sold. The figure is slightly higher with X360’s 30,241 and Sony handheld PSP’s 27,055. While the discrepancy in units is not that impressive, the corresponding percentage of these reveals the real story. The Wii made up 43% of all videogame hardware sales in the territory.
The software sales for the Wii, on the other hand, is a bit tricky. According to GfK, the software attach rate for Nintendo’s baby is just at 1.5 games per console. However, the data supplier company reiterated that we have to consider that the Wii comes in bundled with Wii Sports. And the latter wasn’t included in the computation.
It seems that Nintendo’s risk are now paying off. The situation, you see, is not exclusive for the land down under. In Europe alone, around 325,000 units were sold in just two days. Likewise, the Wii is taking the world by storm with more than 2 million units sold all in all.
