Wiinui: how long until you’re bored?

This isn’t news. Got that? We’re asking you folks a question with this post though.

While this hilarious (debatable depending on your fandom) animated GIF we found on YouTube is hardly newsworthy, it still got us thinking about a few things. The video’s below. It’s simple and inane really. It’s Yuki Nagato from the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya waving around a Wiimote. Observe:

Note the blank stare. The zombified look. The mechanical motion. The detachment. There’s something about it that’s telling isn’t there?

en·nui –noun
a feeling of utter weariness and discontent resulting from satiety or lack of interest; boredom: The endless lecture produced an unbearable ennui.

Doesn’t it make you worry that Nintendo may have given themselves a very big problem in the fact that if third party developers don’t find ways to develop very innovative ways of taking advantage of the Wiimote we may be stuck with poor poor graphically inferior games?

Some would argue that the true Wii experience that so many Nintendo fans are quick to praise might only be found in first party Nintendo titles that are designed with the Wiimote in mind. What’s worse is that Nintendo themselves admit will be released in a “spread out” fashion across the year to give each title the needed space.

Given that most fans take only a few weeks to finish their beloved games, what are we to swing our Wiimotes to every few months or so? To badly implemented third party Wii controls? Wii Sports and Wario Ware can only be charming for so long. Are we to suffer from Wii-nnui? Are we doomed to be like this zombified anime character with big eyes and a small mouth – forever waving a Wiimote in circles? We certainly hope not.

What about you folks? What’s your take? How long did it take you guys got bored with Wii Sports?
