Will Burning Crusade make your gears of WoW obsolete?

Marcus doesn't approve. This won't be enough to survive the Locust Horde. There’s a question to greet endgame and high-level players who log on to The Burning Crusade on release. “With all the new stuff in the expansion, did my equipment just get obsolete?” It ain’t just a useless question, too, especially when you hear that there’s a Fel Reaver coming your way… RUUUUUN!

A question that someone in WoW Insider has set out on a quest to answer, thanks to Beta. Her results are: Tier 1 equipment get replaced almost immediately, Tier 2 will work until the Level 60’s, and Tier 3 will take it all the way to Level 70. There’s also a ton of discussion going on in the official forums, a commenter noted, so WoW Insider’s experiences may be one out of many opinions regarding trading in gear.

But there are a few hard and fast lessons WoW Insider can give from all that experience. Hang on to the high-powered weapons you’ve earned in the original World of Warcraft; the observation is that the stuff dropped in Burning Crusade don’t exactly represent a dramatic jump in DPS performance. But, we observe, don’t take the word of a Paladin from Warcraft III, whose advice would be:

“Is that a sword? LUXURY! Is that a horse? SLOTH! Is that a helmet? VANITY!” Trust me: those won’t just be flesh wounds you’ll be receiving from the Horde…
