Will “Saga of Ryzom” Change The Way Players Think of MMORPG’s?
French game developer Nevrax is thinking it can change perceptions of MMORPGs with their next expansion, “The Ryzom Ring.” When “The Ring” is released this fall, it will allow players to create their own content, quests and game scenarios, quickly and easily.
Executive producer Daniel Miller admits that the release of SoR almost two years ago was premature. Since then, a great deal of effort has gone into bug fixing and polishing the final product and while they consolidate their gaming community. “We’ve got better since then,” Miller says. “We figure we have a product that’s strong.”
The “Ryzom Ring” is part of a strategy to grow the player community while enhancing the experiences of existing players. The tools themselves will be quite user friendly, with “wizards” to walk neophytes through the process. Most everything can be created with mouse clicks. Terrain editing will NOT be an option (for reasons that should be obvious), however, there will be over 200 maps with a wide range of environments from which to choose.
