The much successful sci-fi space shooter, Wing Commander, received a makeover in form of Wing Commander Arena and is now available for download from XBLA. Fans of the series would hope that the title’s appearance on a next-gen console can deliver some nostalgia, but they’re in for a surprise.

The game, which features an arena where up to 16 players can battle it out, is a huge leap from the original released back in the 90s. Whether it’s forward or backward, we’ll let you decide which direction Electronic Arts took the brand. Featuring hectic multiplayer battles and several game modes, Wing Commander Arena is now more of an arcade space shooter than the sim it used to be.
