WipEout HD director Tony Buckley has spoken out on the game’s failure to pass a routine epilepsy test, calling the whole process “subjective”.

“The hardware that actually does the test, it’s quite… Subjective,” Buckley told Eurogamer. “So, you know, it’s difficult to pinpoint what the actual issues are, and whether they are actually issues, to be honest.”

The hardware Buckley is referring to seems to be the Harding flash and pattern analyzer. The HardingFPA is the standard in testing video content for patterns that could cause epileptic seizures. So as it turns out, no, they didn’t just get some guy to play the game until he had a seizure.

Anyway, as subjective as they may think the testing procedure is, Buckley assured gamers that they did take the whole thing seriously. Even though WipEout HD had to come under the knife again, Buckley said that “it’s come out the other end alright, with a lot more content.”

WipEout HD will be debuting on the PlayStation Store next week, on September 25.
