World of Warcraft: guide to Netherdrake quest on PTR
Joni, a Level 70 Rogue Human, just recently completed the Netherwing quest on the newly patched Public Test Realms and grabbed a sweet (and emphasis on sweet, people) Netherdrake mount and it’s becoming a hot topic around the World of Warcraft community. And why wouldn’t it? A Netherdrake mount is sooooo fly, it’ll make anyone look good. Anyone.
But before you all go “open up a giant can of whoop ass” on Illidan Stormrage, you might want to know how to go about the quest first before prepping your Level 70, Epic mount trained avatar for a seriously awesome reputation grind. We’ve searched for some answers, and we’ve found a good, concise summary of the quest straight from the World of Warcraft Forums.
Remember that the rewards for this quest, as for all rewards gained on the Public Test Realm, are only valid until the end of the Test Realm period. Once the patch goes live on the numerous Europe and U.S. realms, you would have to go about the quest again. But since you succeed the first time, the second time around should be a breeze.
A little more info before you get on with the guide: it also seems that if you do succeed in the quest and remain exalted to the Netherwing, you may still be able to choose another Netherdrake if you don’t like the hues on your current one. It hasn’t been tested yet, but the dialogue “I have lost my reins, could you supply me with another?” seems suggestive enough that folks can get to choose another color from the following choices: blue, pink, purple, green, light blue, or black.

The guide follows:
You must have completed the Neltharku series of quests to get neutral with the Netherwing, have 300 riding skill, and (maybe) completed the Teron Gorefiend questline.
The first quest starts at Mordenai in Netherwing Fields, from there he sends you to talk to the leader of the Dragonmaw Orcs. The Orc’s base is on Netherwing Ledge right on the E for Netherwing. Once you get there you get several quests:
- “A Slow Death” (daily) – 250 reputation. Get Fel Glands from the Netherskates around Netherwing Ledge and use them to poison the Dragonmaw Peons.
- “Netherdust Pollen” (herbalist) – collect 40 Netherdust Pollen and turn them in, I’m assuming there is an equivalent quest for every gathering profession-250 reputation.
- “Netherwing Crystal” (daily) – collect 40 netherwing crystals from the flayer mobs on the island-250 reputation.
- “Great Netherwing Egg Hunt” (repeatable) – very rarely you’ll find a Netherwing Egg (I’ve found 2 so far, both off of herbs). The first one you turn in is worth 385 reputation (Human) and all turned in afterwards are 275 (Human) reputation.
- “Not So Friendly Skies” (daily) – fly to the path between Netherwing Ledge and Netherwing Fortress and kill the mobs flying past to get 10 quest items to turn in-250 reputation.
All daily quests are repeatable once a day, and you can do 10 a day maximum. As you gain a higher standing with the faction the number of quests you can do increases, with the new quests giving more rep per turn-in. It’s still not really very clear, but we do know it’s a long grind and not a Tier 0.5 type quest chain.
