WoW CMs comment on Northrend not looking so frozen
If you’ve been keeping up on World of Warcraft‘s expansion: Wrath of the Lich King, you might feel that it doesn’t seem as frozen as it should. Apparently, other players feel the same way and have brought this topic up on the forums citing that Northrend really did look more icy in Warcraft 3.
Apparently the decision to make it appear like it is, was a stylistic one on the part of the developers. They feel that it would be better to have a variety of scenery instead of just mountains and flatlands covered with snow. Blizzard Poster Bornakk spoke about this in his post on the forums:
While we have no plans for Northrend to appear like an island of paradise, we do want the zones to bring a wide variety of scenery and environments for all players to enjoy. Making a continent one big block of ice didnÂ’t seem to fit with this ideology too well.
This was probably a good move by Blizzard, and will prevent more than a few players from getting lost by providing a few distinct landmarks. However, a few players have noted that it should still be possible to cover the place in ice and still have lots of “eye candy” like ice formations and the like.
