WoW Forum: Item recovery mechanics

World of Warcraft logo - Image 1Not so much a news report, but more of a clarification of game mechanics. That’s the theme for this World of Warcraft forums segment we’ll be mentioning, which discusses an accidental item deletion incident.

According to the thread, Maralis (the thread starter) reports that the problem started during a Sethekk instance on April 29, 10 pm (server time) when Malaris accidentally deleted the Shattered Halls key from his inventory while trying to make room for loot.

Maralis did not realize that the key was gone until May 1 (yesterday), and upon requesting a reinstatement of the item, was told by Blizzard is was “not recoverable.”

Here were (Blizzad spokesman) Vrakthris’ words on the matter:

One of the major factors involved on if we are able to restore an item is if it is currently available for restoration. Many items remain available for restoration for awhile but not all of them do; unfortunately the Shattered halls key had a very limited life span and it is no longer available for restoration.

I am sorry, Maralis, if you believe that we should be able to restore an item regardless of the time frame involved or even if there should be an option to acquire a new key it would be best to post that in our Suggestion Forums.

We imagine guys who have had similar accidents as Maralis will find this reply will clarify some of the game’s policies on item recovery. Let this be a lesson – always check what you’re clicking on before sending it on its way.
