WoW forums: Opinions on Blizzard’s April 1 humor
Part of the the old saying goes “you can’t please all of the people all of the time.” And while Blizzard‘s recent April Fool’s treat had several World of Warcraft players LOL’ing in their computer seats, not everything seems to be all right at the WoW forums, where there’s an ongoing discussion regarding what this latest prank streak implies.
As thread starter Nicephorus says, while the WoW official site’s attack of the funnies was most welcome, it gave him thoughts about where Blizzard’s heart truly lay with regards to keeping their game running smoothly. As he elaborated:
Are Blizzard more concerned with a funny website? Or having good, seamless, preoblem-free content?
After Aran bugging out on us for the 2nd time this week (Kill him and you’re locked in his room, and he respawns in 30 minutes, along with his trash, hooray!), and the GMs being unable to help us (whether it be through incapability or indifference), seeing that Blizz is more worried about their Fool’s Day pranks than making sure their game works correctly disappoints me.
Cmon guys. It’s funny, I guess, but for those of us actually playing the game rather than rowsing the forums, we’re not laughing.
Given that it’s April Fool’s day, thread posters took Nicephorus’ statement in with a generally lighthearted mood. Strange comments included one from Blizzard spokesman Nethaera, whose text appeared in clear white, saying “You try to hard to make light of a very serious day. This is a slap in the face!”
Certainly not an official Blizzard announcement, but it captured the spirit of things in the thread. As a point of further clarification, several posters explained that the WoW forums and the WoW MMORPG are run by two separate dev teams. What that means is that while it looks like Blizzard is taking a time off for a few good laughs, chances are their game dev team is hard at work getting the game’s bugs fixed. The moral of the story? Relax, and take this once-a-year opportunity to break from the traditionally cutthroat routine of quests, PvPs, PvEs, and raids.
