WoW: Is the drop rate for Mote of Shadow too low?
Prior to the World of Warcraft patch 2.1, Motes of Shadow were a common drop from demons and void beings. After the said patch, the shadow motes don’t drop from demons anymore. The problem? Well, Hildebrand from the World of Warcraft Forums thinks that the drop rates for the mote are currently too low.
Some players disagreed with the opening post and recommended that Hildebrand get the Mote of Shadow from the Auction House (AH) instead. Come to think about it, they are still relatively cheap. Blizzard poster Drysc gave an answer to the request:
It could be that there is a stockpile, or that they’re not generally used for more in-demand items in large amounts, or they’re just still easy to come by. More than likely it’s some combination of each of those. I don’t see the drop rates as being too low personally and I believe the designers agree at this point, and if it appears to be more lucrative to obtain another type of mote or primal they can easily be sold for much more than shadow, and then shadow can be purchased.
The laws of supply and demand apply. Since people still have stockpiles of Motes of Shadow, the AH prices will stay low. Also, the mote is not as in-demand as others so the stockpiles will take time to dwindle. Drysc added that they (the devs) will be keeping an eye on the situation and if there is a shortage, they will be making adjustments.
