WoW lead designer defends changes made to TBC

Burning CrusadeThe release of the much anticipated WoW expansion The Burning Crusade looms and as each day passes, more changes and developments surface accompanied of course by fans’ inquiries. Not to say they are not liking the so called improvements but certain aspects of the game have been much questioned.

Lead designer Tom “Kalgan” Chilton the other day has a few words to say regarding the matter, especially those concerning the +weaponskill, glancing blows, shadowstep and combat. Above everything else, he mentioned that there are no important changes made for rogues that will make them lose a lot of AP or dps. The same does not hold true for hunters, Kalgan pointed out that “hunters, on the other hand, would have walked into the expansion feeling very nerfed if we hadn’t made the retroactive itemization change.”

Furthermore, client performance was the main reason for changing the shadowstep. This is contrary to previous beliefs that the change was made to maintain balance in the game. “In my opinion, it still needs some functionality improvements, so you can probably expect it to get a buff one way or another relatively soon,” Kalgan added.

Lastly, anyone who’s been following these developments definitely noticed that the +weapon skill probably received the most changes. Kalgan holds their decision firmly when he said that it’s for the best. “We didn’t want +weapon skill to affect glancing blows because glancing blows (along with crushing blows) are our sacrosanct protection against players fighting mobs they’re simply not supposed to be fighting.
