WoW: Paid Character Transfers

WoW

Blizzard will soon allow WoW players to transfer characters between realms – a feature long sought after by their gaming community. Before, character transfers happen only in controlled and special circumstances wherein there is too much player in an overpopulated server, but now for a $25 fee, you could dart your character to a realm of your own choice, fully equipped with equipments, gold, levels, reputation, and player vs. player ranks. Nice!

Since it’s an MMO, World of Warcraft relies on multiple servers to support its over 6 million customers, thus over 100 realms exist. With that, players on one realm cannot interact with those on another. Now with this development, you can do that! In order to take advantage of this new service, a player needs to log into his/her account management page on the World of Warcraft website and click the ‘Paid Character Transfer’ button.

The transfer process can take 1-10 days and while this is going on, the transferred character will be inaccessible during this time. Aside from that, this service will also allow players to transfer their characters to another player, provided that they are registered subscribers for both accounts. A transfer could be cancelled any time before its process is completed. According to Blizzard, the transfer service will not be applicable to all realms at first. This would give the developers some time to observe the service, to not overload the server with such requests, and to test its limitations.

Aside from that, the service has these limitiations: players will not be able to transfer if the realm they choose is already at capacity; the realm is less than 90 days old; and the source and destination realms are of opposing rulesets or a free character migration is upcoming for either realm.

In order to transfer, players must make sure their character’s mailbox is empty and that no mail is incoming, their auctions should be done and they cannot be the leader of a guild. Characters of level 10 or less cannot be transferred, and characters carrying large amounts of gold cannot do that as well. Here are the the gold limits- Level 10-30: 300 gold limit; Level 31-50: 1000 gold limit; Level 51+: 5000 gold limit.

Other details will be divulged by Blizzard in the coming days, so make sure to visit us so that you won’t be left out in the cold about new updates. So, what do you think about this new service? Would you be taking advantage of it? Let us know through your comments.
