WoW: Will we be getting guild houses?

Introducing guild housing in World of Warcraft is a topic that has sparked quite a few debates on both the forums and among the bloggers here in QJ. Some people have been asking for it, while others vehemently oppose it. But the question remains: will we be getting it?

On the WoW Forums, this was brought up once again and quite a few people have joined in to share their thoughts on the matter. Those who want guild housing are saying that it will help foster guild unity and loyalty. Those who don’t say that the cities will turn into ghost towns with most gamers hanging out in their appropriate guild house. Blizzard Poster Nethaera addressed both sides of the debate in a post:

It’s a feature we’d like to look at sometime in the future though we don’t have any specific plans for it at this time. This has been brought up quite a few times in discussions on these forums and tends to result in a lot of arguments both for and against such an idea. On our end of things, we have a mountain of great ideas we’d like to implement into the game at some point, but that involves a lot of prioritizing and scheduling to make them happen.

I don’t see any problem though with people gathering in the cities and interacting with each other though. It gives me a chance to see what everyone outside my own guild is up to and gives me a chance to meet new people.

So the argument looks rather moot, considering it isn’t one of the priorities of Blizzard at this point. However, when they do decide to implement it, you can expect the players to have another discussion such as this again.
