WWII shmup attack – iFighter
It’s no secret that there are a lot of shmups out there, and the iPhone is home to quite a few too, including the Star Trek one that we saw last week. This one is one of the more popular releases, similar to the old NES classic, 1942. It’s called iFighter, and its lite version scored 1.8 million downloads in the App Store since it was released six months ago.

With so many games of the same concept and the same look out there, it’s quite impressive that iFighter scored that many downloads, even if it’s just the free lite version. Touch Arcade reports that the game received good feedback from their forum members, and comments on their front page article seem to point to out that it’s a great game.
There will be four levels of land and sea missions over Europe, each one capped off with a challenging end boss that makes your plane look like a cheap keychain. To help you in your fight, you can pick up powerups including the Flash Bullet, Bomb, Health, and even two sidekicks that fire right alongside you.
The full version comes at a special introductory price of US$ 0.99, while the lite version can still be downloaded for free.
