X360 HD-DVD To Sell for $375?

Looks like the Xbox 360 won’t be having a holiday price cutdown, but don’t fret ‘coz retailers say that starting November, an HD-DVD and console package will be offered instead.

According to GamesIndustry’s sources, Microsoft is planning to sell the HD-DVD drive at £199, which is roughly $375 for us in the US, along with two HD-DVD movies. Critics say that the movie support for next-gen consoles could’ve been PS3’s edge, but the X360’s HD-DVD package could sell for a $100 cheaper than the PS3’s Blu-ray. In addition, Microsoft has just recently reduced the price of the X360’s core package after retailers have similarly lowered their prices.

The sources also said that Microsoft will probably package the console and the HD-DVD for GBP 400 or 589 Euro -– which is roughly US $753, and that the selling price could even go as low as around US $705. Yep, $705 for BOTH the console and the movie player. And with the PS3’s further delay in its launch, well…Microsoft is looking to their SKUs to be sold over the holidays, while there’s no competition.

Gem, a UK distributor, is said to be already selling Xbox 360s bundles with a copy of Project Gotham Racing 3, along with two wireless controllers, all for the price of GBP 299, or an estimate of US $563. An official Premium bundle is expected to be made available in the market by early November, which will include a newly released triple-A third-party title. GamesIndustry tried to get the guys over at Microsoft to deny/confirm these speculations but they were unavailable for comment.
